Summer Ends & Seminar Season Begins…

conferenceroomNo doubt you’re fully back into work as the nights get colder and darker.

I know, but don’t worry, next summer will soon come around :)

The last few months have been hectic. Apart from client work, we have a number of events lined up between now and the end of the year:

  • On October 8th I am speaking in Derby to 20+ NHS dentists (I’m one of 4 speakers)
  • On October 16th we are running a workshop at Bourne House in Durham for dentists. We’ll be covering various aspects of getting your financial affairs right, including: different types of investments and their pros and cons, and how to measure your progress towards retirement (i.e. will you have enough income when you get there?)
  • On November 20th, we are running the same workshop in Cumbria

If you want more details about the workshops, email or call me and I’ll let you know the details (although I’ll have to check with the organisers to see whether there’s places available).

Last week I was at a twice yearly investment conference in London. It was an excellent day that covered:

  • Life Planning with George Kinder, President of the Kinder Institute of Life Planning: The main message here is that what clients want the most is to uncover what they really want out of the rest of their lives – and it’s the Financial Planner’s role to help them achieve it.
  • We then had a technical session on rebalancing clients’ portfolios.
  • The last session was a video link with Dan Sullivan, of Strategic  Coach: This covered business and practice management and how to ensure that you position yourself and work within (and on) your business so that you can play to your core strengths, resulting in achieving more of what you are aiming for.

I believe it’s crucial that you take a step back from the day to day activity that we’re all guilty of getting caught up in, and try to focus on the ‘bigger picture’. Yes, easier said than done at times, but there’s no harm in having meaningful goals, right?
