This week I’m not doing a ‘serious bit’ in Wrap-Up.
Instead I want to share my experience of ‘do less, learn more’.
This summer I’ve made a conscious decision to spend less time at the office and work at home more. Even more important than this, I decided a few months ago that I’d take as much time off work as possible.
I set off on this ‘mission’ simply to be able to take the time to relax and ‘kick back’ with my family and friends.
The good news is that I feel that I’ve accomplished my goal. My sister has been visiting from New Zealand and I’ve managed to spend quite a lot of time with her and my niece.
I’ve also been out on a lot of day trips with my wife, mainly in Northumberland. I have to say I feel quite lucky to live so close to so many great places to visit
However, the point of telling you all this is that I’ve been able to learn so much in the process.
About people.
Places.
And the joy of not working.
I think it’s sometimes easy to forget that many of our experiences in life come from activities we do away from work. Think about it; what stories do you tell your family and friends the most?
So, in future I’ll be structuring my time even more so that I can take more time off from work. I’m sure I’ll be a better person for it and I know my wife will be happy with my decision!
The last news worthy of mention is that in early September I celebrate my 40th birthday! So, statistically, I’ve just about reached half way on my life journey
I’m off to Edinburgh to celebrate so, until next month, best wishes.
