Peter Briggs Testimonial

At the age of 45 I had no clear idea about my financial future, and whether my array of policies and accounts would provide me with sufficient funds to support a comfortable retirement.

I was also becoming increasingly conscious that I seemed to be saving for the future and not enjoying what I could potentially afford in the present. So, I was curious to know whether a new approach to looking at my finances would be useful.

So, after being recommended to Rutherford Wilkinson, I met Graeme Urwin. Graeme was relaxed and friendly, and this has not changed over the years.  Here is someone who has put the personal into personal financial planning.  I feel that Graeme has made great efforts to understand my personal goals and ambitions – what I would like to do in life – as well as understanding my commitments.  It is in this context that financial planning becomes understandable – what can I afford to do now, and what can I afford to do in the future?

To begin with, the most useful thing for me was gaining a sense of understanding and control over my finances.  I had always had a clear idea of where my money was going – what I was spending it on – but now I can think ahead with better clarity, with my savings and investments having been reorganised.

It is important to me to keep a proper balance between life and work.  With Graeme’s help I have been able to look at different strategies for reducing my work commitments and compare how they would affect my financial position in the future, taking into consideration my ambitions for retirement.  Now, more than ever, I am in a situation where I can make informed decisions about what I do in life and work now, understanding how these decisions will affect me in the future.  With control comes contentment, especially knowing I should still have some money in the bank when I am 90!

My dealings with Rutherford Wilkinson have always been friendly and supportive.  Talk to Graeme and see what he says.  If it’s not for you then you can always say no, but I think you will be pleasantly surprisedat the help and peace of mind he can provide.
