We had been looking forward to our annual holiday in Saundersfoot in Wales for many weeks. As the date got nearer and nearer (18th July) we studied the long term weather forecast with interest, and said a little prayer.
The day arrived and we set off after Charlotte had finished school on the Friday. As it is a longish drive, we stay in Oswestry on the Friday night. There we meet my in laws, and generally relax, have a meal and get some kip.
It is a very pleasant trip through the heart of Wales on the Saturday, and we arrived at Saundersfoot early afternoon. Wonder of wonders it was sunny!
We settled in and booked our favourite table at the Mermaid Bar for that evening. This restaurant overlooks the harbour and beach, and its beer battered fish n chips are cracking.
Talking of beaches, we spent a lot of time there for almost the whole week. We were very lucky with the weather, as nearly every day was sunny and warm or even hot.
Saundersfoot is a really nice place to chill out for a week. It has a great beach, rock pools, working harbour, and is on the Pembrokeshire Coastal Walk. It is also on the gulf stream, meaning that the sea temperature is a lot higher than the North Sea
So daughter Charlotte spends half her day running into the sea in her surf suit, playing ball and making sure that daddy gets splashed. I am now very comfortable with my role as ‘he who will play, get dunked and be generally bashed about’.
I of course had my novels all ready to read, and managed almost two books that week. In fact the weather was so good, we did very little travelling around, except for a trip to Caldy Island. This is a small island inhabited by Monks just off Tenby, and is very interesting. On the boat trip there the waves splashed us a bit, and that meant Charlotte trying to stand where the next wave would come over the prow!
There is also another thing I did whilst on holiday that I had never done before – I saw some new clients! The background was that this couple, who are both Consultants in Cardiff, were due their strategy meeting that would create the way forward for them.
I had the option of returning from holiday in Wales and then going back the following week, or actually seeing them that week. By pure chance the clients were free to take a break that weekend, and they decided to come to Saundersfoot!
We had a nice meeting at the St Brides Hotel overlooking the beach, and this was only 300 metres from our holiday apartment – again on the beach. The news I had for them was very positive, and within 5 minutes of our meeting I was back on …… yes, the beach.
I have decided that this is the future – clients come to me on holiday. Oh well, I can always try!
