A Stain On My Character?

I really enjoyed my recent holiday.

We had a nice break in Wales - wet - and also in Scarborough - mostly sunny. No sooner were we back when both Senior Management (spouse) and Mini Management (daughter) were off again to Wales!

Muggins here (foot soldier) was delegated to get back to work, and do the jobs around the house that need doing. One of these jobs was staining the outdoor windows/sills/doors,as we were lazy (sorry, I was lazy) last year.

There comes a time and all that.

One of the tests here of course is that when it rains, the water sits on the sills rather than sinking in to the woodwork! I have to report dear reader that the latter applies.

So, off to our local supplier of brushes/sandpaper/stain I went, passed a few tenners over the counter, and left with the required tools.

Being a typical male, I meticulously planned how I would tackle the job of staining 25 windows and doors. Factors taken into account were do the worst weather exposed ones first, what time needed to elapse between coats and was it #><~# raining again.

The good news was that the weather improved, and each day I did 3-4 hours whilst the sun shone. I felt proud of myself as I brushed and brushed and managed to avoid too much of the stain ending up on me.

As an aside, on re-reading the instructions on the tin, it said "do not apply in bright sunlight"! I decided to make the decision to pretend that I had not seen this.

Well, I can report that all the downstairs woodwork is now done, although this leaves the (high) upstairs windows. I should mention at this point that I suffer from vertigo, and am not looking forward to this one bit.

So if in a months time it is Ray doing the newsletter again, then you may presume the worst!

On the bright side, when it then rained, the water did indeed sit on top of the new stained woodwork. Relief!
